Dermatology Services for Pets

A skin irritation or problem can have your furry friend feeling very uncomfortable. This is something no pet should have to endure. Our veterinarians are very experienced in treating dermatological issues in cats and dogs. We perform a comprehensive examination and bloodwork to determine the cause of your pet’s skin issues. Once we make a diagnosis, we prescribe treatment to get your loyal companion back to their normal health.

How can I tell if my pet has skin issues?

Abnormalities on the skin are usually easy to spot. We recommend checking your furry friend for any irregularities. If you notice any changes be sure to contact your veterinarian to have your pet’s condition assessed and properly diagnosed. Signs of dermatological issues may vary based on what’s causing them. Some general signs you may look for include:

  • Red or irritated skin
  • Bald patches
  • Lumps or bumps throughout their fur
  • Continuously licking or biting at the skin
  • Excessive shedding
  • Dandruff
  • Body odour

If you’re concerned about any of these signs, schedule an appointment with us at 403.637.3928.

What causes skin issues in pets?

There are many reasons as to why your pet may be experiencing dermatological issues. A common cause of skin issues are parasites. Parasites cause redness or irritation of the skin. The environment your pet is exposed to may also cause them to have skin issues. Some loyal companions have allergic reactions to certain plants and pollens. It is also possible that they have a reaction to certain foods. Another cause of skin issues in pets are bacterial infections. Some furry friends may suffer from yeast infections.

How are skin issues treated in pets?

In order to treat your pet’s skin issues, our team will perform tests for a diagnosis. We usually perform bloodwork to determine if there are underlying issues causing the external problems. Once we have the results we will create a treatment plan for your furry friend.

We would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to all our clients that have been so patient with us during the current pandemic situation. We are happy to announce that we are open again!

We are kindly asking that our clients still wear a mask when they are in the building to protect themselves and our staff. Our waiting room will be limited to one client at a time. All our staff will also still be wearing their masks and taking care to wipe down frequently touched surfaces and sanitize in between clients and patients as we have always done.

If you are uncomfortable entering the clinic, please do not hesitate to call and we are happy to serve you and your pet curbside. As always cats must be in carriers, and dogs must be on a leash for safety and liability reasons.

We know that these have been trying times for everyone, but rest assured your pet is still receiving the highest quality of care that you have always known from our veterinarians and staff members.

If there are any concerns or special circumstances, please feel free to discuss this with our staff and we can take it into consideration.
